Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a flagship conditional cash transfer scheme implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. It provides direct financial assistance to pregnant women and lactating mothers to compensate for partial wage loss, ensure proper nutrition, and encourage healthcare-seeking behavior during pregnancy and childbirth. For the first child, eligible mothers receive ₹5,000 in two installments (upon pregnancy registration and child birth registration). For the second child, a single installment of ₹6,000 is provided, provided the child born is female, discouraging female foeticide and supporting girl child growth.
